Nas' "Untitled" Review

I Listened to The sampler of Nas' new album which hits stores on July 15th. It is one of his best albums and one of the best hip-hop albums in the last 5 years. Nas is The Best Rapper of all-time in my opinion. What do You Think??

Has society looked itself in the mirror lately? With the everlasting issues of racism and police brutality, Nas drops his most controversial album to date. Nas’ message speaks loud and clear, and corresponds with the problems being endured by minorities. Nas’ latest LP Untitled breaks down the barriers, and evokes a sociological revolution, among many African Americans. Untitled could very well be the best album Nas has dropped, but due to his overwhelming classics in his past, many critics may overlook this LP. With precise lyrics and in depth tracks discussing third world struggles, racism, discrimination, and politics, the Untitled LP is a modern day reflection of humanity.

Nas has accomplished what Marvin Gaye did with his 1971 classic What’s Going On, which is to provide introspective tracks, that transcends time and generations. The track “Ya’ll My Niggas” briefly showcases the evolution of the word nigger. Furthermore, Nas discusses how the jargon of the word, has effected us mentally, economically, and physically. Nas also breaks down the aspects of corporate America, and its’ attempts to appeal, and sell records to the urban crowd. This is quite evident with the lines “So what if my pants sag, with my hat turned back, the same swag got our merchandise, flying off the racks.”

The same empowering lyrics can be found on his insightful track “N.I.G.G.E.R.”, which discusses poverty, health issues, crime, and inferior emotions within a slave civilization. The song “Fried Chicken”, which was produced by Mark Ronson, also pays ode to the stereotypical meal of African Americans. If that doesn’t toot your horn, other tracks such as: “Sly Fox”, Testify”, “We’re Not Alone”, & “America” expresses the enraged feelings, and the vast deprivation faced in America.

On the Untitled, Nas truly emphasizes that he is our hero. On his drum heavy single “Hero” produced by Polow Da Don, he clearly states “Nas the true rebel since the beginning.” Is this what we actually need as a society? Well, in order for any neglected and discriminated minority to succeed, they will need a forceful leader, and Nas truthfully holds this title in the face of adversity. The Untitled is an album all Nas’ fans must embrace for ages.
